How to filter search results
By default, search results will match all the words you enter. The more words you enter, the more precise the results will be. Searches are case insensitive.
Search will find exact word matches and similar words. For example, if you enter sponsor, your results will also include sponsoring and sponsorship.
You may perform advanced searches using special characters.
Searching for phrases
Put double quotes ("") around a set of words to find pages with that exact phrase. For example, if you enter the word "visit", search will not look for visited and visiting.
Other examples:
- "citizenship judges"
- "come to canada"
Excluding terms
Use a minus sign (-) in front of words to exclude them from your search.
Examples:
- citizenship -judges
- visa -video -study
Using “OR”
Use “OR” (in ALL CAPS) if you want to search for either one of several words. For example, if you enter the words Ontario OR Alberta, search will look for results containing Ontario, Alberta, or both.
Advanced search
Advanced search has more features than the basic search:
Scope
By default, search results will match all the words you enter. Use the Scope drop-down to search for any of the words or the exact phrase.
Language
By default, results will be in the same language as the search page. Use the Language drop-down to search for documents in English only or French only.
